About Us

Radio Greeneville, Inc. has been a source of community information since we signed on the air in 1946 with WGRV 1340 AM. Over the next three-quarters of a century, RGI has grown to serve the people of Greeneville and Greene County and keep them informed with local news.

In 1956, Radio Greeneville expanded our reach with the addition of an FM radio station. In 2001, we added AM/FM combo, and upgraded AM stations to the FM band in 2016.  We now broadcast 99.5 FM and 1340 AM WGRV, 103.1 FM WIKQ, and 95.5 FM and 1450 AM WSMG.  In additional, all of our stations are streamed on-line.

Since 1997, the station has offered its news online for free, pioneering digital journalism in the community and becoming the first news organization here to do so.

Radio Greeneville prioritizes local news that matters most to residents. From local government meetings to breaking stories, the station keeps its finger on the pulse of Greeneville and Greene County, delivering live updates as events unfold. Weather and traffic updates are provided regularly, with a particular focus on severe weather warnings and vital information during inclement conditions.  We have reporters who go out into the community to gather the information you need and want to know.  We are a trusted and reliable source for local news.  Our on-air and on-line content is generated here in our studios and by contributors, mainly through news releases.  We vet and verify those sources unknown to us to ensure we bring you only accurate information.

On the air and on-line, we also share in your joys and sorrows.  You can hear birthday and graduation celebrations, honors and awards, and achievements of our citizens.  We share in your sorrows with local obituaries and sharing of memorial services for your loved ones.

Radio Greeneville serves as a vital resource for our community, airing local school closings and road condition updates to keep the community informed and safe. Additionally, the station is a supporter of local high school sports, covering games and events from all five Greene County High Schools.  We carry high school football from our local schools, both boys and girls basketball, and the Tusculum University football and men’s and women’s basketball games.  Our local sports brings scores from all seasons and sports to our listeners and webpage readers.
