A Greeneville man was charged with DUI after nearly wrecking his vehicle on Tusculum Boulevard early Monday morning.
An officer with the Greeneville Police Department was on routine patrol around 12:30 AM and saw a truck taking a right turn from Justis Drive onto Tusculum Boulevard. The truck was pulling a trailer with a side-by-side on it. The driver, identified as Justin B. Peters of Buckingham Road, took such a wide turn that the vehicle almost collided with the guardrail at Tusculum Boulevard. While correcting the truck, Peters then almost hit the curb on Tusculum Boulevard near the entrance to the Greeneville Commons parking lot.
A traffic stop was conducted and the officer detected an odor of alcohol. Peters said he had left a bar shortly beforehand. He performed poorly on field sobriety tests and registered a .291 on a breathalyzer test. He was transported to the Greene County Detention Center for DUI.
