An early-morning earthquake has been upgraded to a magnitude 2.3 on the Richter Scale, according to the latest information from the United States Geological Survey.
The quake was measured at 4:37 this morning. Originally measured as a 1.9 magnitude quake centered along Doughtys Chapel Road, the updated measurements place the epicenter along Temple Street, between Mount Bethel Road and Hope Road inside the city limits.
The last measurable earthquake recorded in Greene County prior to today was in December of last year. That quake measured 2.3 on the Richter scale and was centered off Cox Hill Road north of Greeneville.
