TennCare and CoverKids members under the age of two will be able to qualify for up to 100 diapers a month at no cost effective August 7th, 2024. Disposable diapers, including pull-ups or trainers are also covered.
In May of this year the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) approved the state’s request to amend its Medicaid section 1115 demonstration entitled “TennCare III” (Project Number 11- W-00369/4 and 21-W-00075/9). The amendment is aimed at enhancing healthcare access and support for TennCare members.
This approval allows for several modifications to the coverage and benefits available under the demonstration, including (1) the expansion of eligibility for parents and caretaker relatives of dependent children; (2) the provision of a new benefit to cover a supply of diapers for infants and young children enrolled in TennCare and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) (known in the state as CoverKids); and (3) the enhancement of home and community-based services (HCBS) available to individuals with disabilities under the demonstration, with particular emphasis on employment supports.
Some details regarding the diaper benefit:
- Diapers are available at participating pharmacies across the state. You can find a participating pharmacy at TN.gov/TennCare/diapers.
- You don’t need a prescription; simply present your child’s pharmacy ID card at the counter. If your child is a newborn without a card, the pharmacy can use the mother’s pharmacy ID card or Social Security number.
- TennCare will cover popular diaper brands and offer a variety of diaper types to meet your family’s needs. For more information on diaper brands and types, visit TN.gov/TennCare/diapers.
- Your pharmacy may not stock all the brands covered or have a stocked supply of your preferred brand. You may want to call your pharmacy ahead of time.
- There is no cost or copay.
