The Greeneville Police Department said in a press release this afternoon that the body found over the weekend off Moore Avenue has been identified as 63-year-old Tony Adkins Melton of Greeneville. Melton is believed not to have had to a permanent address and did not reside in any home in that area.
Officers responded to the 1700 block of Moore Avenue around 11:20 Saturday morning after receiving a call about a possible dead body. Upon arrival, officers found Melton’s body in an advanced state of decay. Preliminary assessments suggested his body had been at the location for about a week.
The cause of Melton’s death has not yet been determined, pending autopsy results from the William L. Jenkins Forensic Center in Johnson City.
