Today will be uncomfortably hot, and likely the hottest day of the weekend. Highs will be in the low-to-mid 90s. At times, it will feel like it is closer to 100°. A few pop-up storms will develop during the afternoon. For the Monday morning commute, it will already be muggy with temperatures near 70 degrees.
The high for today is near 90 degrees with the temperatures continuing to be scorching for the most of the week. Nothing but heat and the likelihood of very few of the pop-up showers to cool things down. The National Weather Service and Greeneville/ Greene County EMA director Heather Sipe have advised citizens to take the following precautions:
* Limit time outdoors during the hottest part of the day, which is 10 am to 2 pm.
* Wear light-colored clothing and sunscreen when outdoors.
* Drink plenty of water
* Ensure that any children or pets are not left unattended in a vehicle.
While the extent of the heat wave is still being determined by the National Weather Service, it is extremely likely for much of the area to reach temperatures well into the 90s with a heat index above 100 degrees for several days.
