During the Greene County Commission meeting this week commissioners voted to allow Lawyer Crystal Jessee with the Jessee Law Office to file a lawsuit against entities that are price-fixing drugs like insulin.
Jessee was requesting the commission’s support in authorizing Greene County Mayor Kevin Morrison to sign a new contract agreement on behalf of the county, so a lawsuit can be filed against any entity selling insulin, specifically pharmacy benefit managers. She said this entity is driving health insurance costs up tremendously in Greene County.
Jessee added this lawsuit is separate from the case that was filed regarding opioids and stated another contract was needed to now include insulin. Pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) are entities that administer prescription drug insurance benefits, which include negotiating prices with drug manufacturers and pharmacies.
Jessee said this lawsuit would be filed rather quickly. Other counties are also involved in the lawsuit with their own separate contracts.
