Motorists traveling should be aware of road construction on US Highway 25-E, just outside Newport, as it will be closed around the Douglas Lake area for about 10 days while crews stabilize the roadway.
Recent cracking of the road has made it unsafe for travel and the Tennessee Department of Transportation has recently reduced to one lane, with a temporary traffic signal. Crews will install two rows of soil nails for safety to provide additional stability in the area of roadway cracking.
The closure, which will be about four miles from the intersection of the four lanes in Newport, will begin today and is expected to be in place through the end of the month. Signs will be installed to direct motorists around the work zone. Weather permitting; the road will be re-opened to one lane again by September.
Motorists are advised to use extreme caution in this area, as workers will be present.
