The Lady Rebels are known for their spectacular play in February and that continued on Monday with a District Championship victory over Chuckey-Doak 70-38. South Greene would use their outside shooting and outstanding pressure defense in the title win. Ryleigh Gregg led the way in the championship win with 20 points while Hailey Brooks added 17 and Jordyn Roderick would add 12.
In the consolation game, West Greene would defeat Happy Valley 42-37 to finish third in this year’s District Tournament. South Greene, Chuckey-Doak, and West Greene will all advance into the Region Tournament.
Brooks was named Tournament MVP with Roderick, Gregg, and Haley Susong all named to the All-Tournament team. Chuckey-Doak’s Hayleigh Taylor, Saniah Atchison, and Courtnee Jones along with West Greene’s Madi Brown and Taylor Lawson were also named to the All-Tournament Team.
With the win, the Lady Rebels will host Pigeon Forge on Friday night while the Chuckey-Doak Lady Knights will host Union County. West Greene will face a tough task as they’ll travel to Alcoa Friday night. All the Region Quarterfinal games are elimination games with the losing team eliminated from the postseason.
In District 1-A, the North Greene Lady Huskies would fall to state-ranked Hampton 55-42. Sonya Wagner, Haley Bailey, and Grace Buchanan were all named to the District 1-A All-Tournament team. The Lady Huskies will still host a Region Quarterfinal game on Friday against Jellico.
