Two people were arrested on drug charges Tuesday morning after they were found in a parked vehicle.
A deputy with the Greene County Sheriff’s Department was on patrol shortly before 8:30 AM around the bridge on Asheville Highway when he spotted a parked Jeep, facing the opposite way.
When the deputy approached the vehicle, a glass pipe was sitting in the front seat in plain view. Another deputy then noticed two people lying down in the back seat, identified as Mary Marshall of Limestone and Cecil Penley of Mosheim. Deputies smelled a strong odor of marijuana.
Marshall said she picked up Penley from work and they were hanging out. A search of the vehicle produced multiple bags containing meth and marijuana. Penley claimed ownership of all the meth in the Jeep. Another bag of marijuana was found in Marshall’s purse, along with a small bag that contained meth.
Penley was charged with the manufacture, delivery, sale or possession of meth, simple possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Marshall was charged with simple possession of schedule 2 and 6 drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.
