Thawing Pipes Will Be The Next Challenge After Winter Freeze

Frozen Pipes

High temperatures in the 40s tomorrow will be welcome, and the rolling blackouts are over. However, warmer temperatures will may also mean that frozen pipes will begin to thaw. There have been several businesses and homes that have already experienced water flow from broken pipes, and more can be expected over the next couple of days. Homeowners should be aware of where the water cutoff is in the event of leaks.

Also, as the ground warms, the area water departments will also start finding broken lines. This could cause water interruptions while the leaks are located and repaired. Watch for areas where leaks occur, which could ice over during overnight hours. Keep an eye out for water department workers, and be patient as repairs are made. The good news is that the New Year should come in with sunshine and hi temps in the 60s.  Please advise your water department if you see areas of water from broken lines.

Water line breaks have caused problems at Greeneville Middle School, Car Smart on East Andrew Johnson Highway, Forward Air, Casa Express on Tusclulum Boulevard, the Garland Library at Tusculum University, Signature Healthcare on Holt Court, Fulflex on East Church, the former Takoma Hospital Building, the former CE Minerals on Coile Street, Barton Greene Apartments on Barton Ridge Road, Morning Pointe on Mt. Bethel Road, Austex on Church Street, Cancun on East AJ, and Publix are just among those who have reported issues with sprinkler or water systems.
