A woman is facing charges after allegedly wrecking a stolen vehicle on Sunday.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Department responded around 4:45 PM to a wreck in the 12000 block of Newport Highway. The Cocke County Sheriff’s Department called dispatch, stating a woman had wrecked a Nissan car and fled the scene on foot.
The Cocke County Sheriff’s Department requested Greene County deputies respond to a home in the 2400 block of Newport Highway to see if the suspect was at the address. Deputies spoke with the victim, who said the car had overheated around 11:30 that morning. He had left it in the parking lot of an abandoned store and had left the keys inside.
The victim said that no one had permission to take the vehicle. The investigation of the incident is continuing.
