The Greeneville Police Department responded to the Greeneville Commons Monday after a woman reportedly attempted to steal clothing from Ross.
A woman shopping at the store saw another woman attempt to leave the store with a shopping cart full of merchandise. The suspect was unable to leave with the cart, but left with a purse full of unpurchased merchandise.
The manager pulled up camera footage showing the suspect passing all points of sale with the unpurchased merchandise. When officers located the suspect, she had a purse full of clothing and several pairs of shoes. The items taken totaled around $215 and were all returned to the store.
No further police actions were taken. The district loss prevention manager said he would rather pursue the suspect through private prosecution.
