The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is warning citizens of a scam.
Residents have recently reported receiving letters stating money is owed to the Tax Assessment Securities Office. The letter comes with the heading “Distraint Warrant” and instructs the individual to call a number within 15 days of receiving the notice to settle a tax liability.
The letters are a scam and the office is nonexistent. Do not call the number on the letter. If you have fallen victim to the scam, call 788-1414.
