Police officers recognized a man driving on West Main Street Thursday afternoon, as Johnny Johnson of Mosheim, known to have a suspended drivers licence and an active warrant. Officers stopped the vehicle and placed Johnson into custody.
After officers were reportedly denied consent to search the vehicle, a K9 officer was deployed and gave a positive alert on the vehicle. During the search, a cut straw, syringe, a baggie with purple powder consistent with heroin, and 2 Xanax totem poles were discovered, all within reach of the driver and passenger, neither of which claimed the paraphernalia or drugs were theirs.
The passenger, Michael Cutshaw of the Asheville Highway, was placed under arrest, as well. According to the report, Cutshaw claimed to have narcotics — believed by officers to be Fentanyl — on his person.
Both face multiple drug possession, as well as other charges.
