The National Weather Service has issued a Cold Weather Advisory Monday, January 26th, from midnight until 10:00 AM. Very cold temperatures are expected behind this departing storm system with low temperatures in the single digits Monday night through Tuesday morning, and wind chill values as cold as -5 to -15 degrees across the higher elevations.
Greene County EMA Director Heather Sipe said High Wind Warnings remain in effect for the mountains and foothills of Greene County through Sunday night. Wind gusts could reach up to 60 miles per hour in higher elevations, increasing the risk of downed tree limbs and isolated power outages.
Precipitation in Greene County is expected to be all rain today and temperatures will climb well above freezing. Highs should reach the upper 40’s, with rainfall totals between one half and three quarters of an inch possible.
Then a blast of Arctic air will settle into the region. And daytime highs will remain below freezing through much of the upcoming week. Officials urge residents to prepare for prolonged cold conditions, protect pipes, and use caution on roadways as any lingering moisture may refreeze.
