A vacant residence sustained significant damage as a result of a Thursday night fire.
Chief Alan Shipley says the Greeneville Fire Department responded to the 8:17 pm call at 202 North Nelson Street.
Shipley reports upon arrival, firefighters observed heavy smoke coming from the eaves and roof area of the residence. Crews made entry through the A-side of the structure and quickly located the fire in the living room area. A second arriving crew deployed ground ladders to the front of the home and conducted vertical roof ventilation to remove heat and smoke from the structure.
Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control quickly. However, extensive overhaul operations were required due to fire extension into the attic and roof areas.
A total of 15 Greeneville firefighters responded to the incident, and 7 off-duty firefighters were recalled providing staffing for additional apparatus at Stations 1 and 3 during the emergency.
No injuries were reported.
Fire crews remained on scene for several hours and cleared the incident at approximately 11:00 p.m.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
