A Winter Storm Watch will be in effect for the mountains of Southeast Greene County from late Saturday night through Sunday evening.

The National Weather Service in Morristown expects the storm system will move through the region bringing a mixed bag of precipitation, with rain, sleet, and snow in about every location. The system is expected to begin Saturday night in to Sunday. Snow totals for the higher elevations according to numerous weather models, is 4-7 inches or more depending on elevation. Lower elevations are forecasted to receive 1-2 inches.

Radio Greeneville News spoke with Meteorologist Nathan Wellington who said right now there is a lot of uncertainty in regards to the impact from the storm system. It really just depends on the liquid equivalent, which Wellington said is a term meteorologist’s use for the combination of rain and snow. If there is heavy snowfall combined with the cold temperatures, that could affect the accumulation.

This system could affect travel over the weekend, especially those traveling into the higher elevations. Stay tuned to Radio Greeneville for weather updates.
