Greeneville, Tenn. (October 31, 2025) — United Way of Greene County has announced an emergency response plan to help meet the growing food needs of local residents who may be affected by suspended SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) and WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) benefits.
With many families possibly facing increased food insecurity in the coming weeks, United Way is partnering with several trusted community organizations to expand food assistance across Greene County. A total of $1,995 in emergency funding has been approved to strengthen the capacity of four food programs serving different areas of the community.
Wendy Peay is Executive Director of United Way of Greene County and spoke to Radio Greeneville News about the effort.
“Greene County has always come together in times of need,” said Wendy Peay, Executive Director of United Way of Greene County. “By working alongside our local food ministries and partner agencies, we can help ensure that no family goes hungry while these essential benefits are interrupted.”
The emergency support will be distributed as follows:
Community Ministries – Increasing milk deliveries from 10 to 15 cases per week to meet higher food pantry demand.
Family Resource Center (Greene County Schools) – Expanding pantry visit opportunities for families in need.
My Neighbor’s House (Bradburn Hill UMC, Kingsport Highway) – Providing evening food box pickups for working families every Tuesday and Thursday.
Northern Greene County Churches United in Love Ministry – Expanding weekend food distributions for families in the northern part of the county.
Together, these efforts will strengthen local food response systems, ensuring access to nutritious food for households across Greene County.
