It’s believed at least two weekend fires could have been the result of lightning.
South Greene Volunteer Fire Department Chief David Weems reports South Greene, Debusk and Sunnyside firefighters responded at 4:09 Sunday afternoon to a residence in the one fifty block of Southwind Circle.
The homeowner stated he believed lightning had struck the home. Upon arrival, firefighters found light smoke throughout the residence. A small fire was discovered in the attic at an HVAC air handler unit, which was quickly extinguished using a small amount of water. Ventilation to remove smoke from the residence was conducted by use of positive pressure fans.
Damage estimates are unknown at this time.
Firefighters cleared the scene about an hour later.

Units from Tusculum, Limestone, Nolichuckey and Newmansville responded to another call at 11:31 pm Saturday at 6145 Chuckey Pike, in which the house was believed struck by lightning. No other details were immediately available.

At the time of that call, Tusculum was also assisting Camp Creek, Sunnyside and Debusk Rehab on a residential fire at Kilday Park off Cumberland Drive. The home was destroyed.
