Two people were injured and one of the drivers charged following a two vehicle wreck Wednesday around 8:50 pm at the East Andrew Johnson Highway/Fairgrounds Road intersection.

According to the report by Greeneville Police Officer Tanner Cheek, a car driven by Melissa D. Dalton of Bird Drive, Greeneville, collided head on with a car operated by Joyce Garber of Holder Road in Afton.

Dalton told the officer she was not injured but he says she appeared lethargic and couldn’t make coherent sentences.  She also , the report says, could not maintain her balance and performed poorly on field sobriety tests.  The passenger in her car, who was not injured, told officers Dalton had eaten THC gummies.

(Editors note –  THC gummies — also known as weed gummies or marijuana gummies — are edible cannabis products that are infused with THC, the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana. THC is what gives users a sense of a “high.” THC gummies can often look just like regular candy.)

Dalton consented to a blood draw which was performed at Greeneville Community Hospital.

She was charged with Vehicular Assault, Driving Under The Influence and Reckless Endangerment.

Garber and one of her passengers Allen Miller of Afton, were transported by EMS to Greeneville Community Hospital.  A juvenile passenger in the Garber car complained of pain but did not require transport.
