Two were arrested Friday after a traffic stop was conducted and the driver fled from the scene.
According to the report, at about 9 PM deputies stopped the vehicle at the intersection of Jonesbridge and Possum Creek Access Road due to the driver side tail light out. As the deputy was approaching, the vehicle drove off toward the 107 Cutoff. A pursuit began and the driver, later identified as Marcy Eaton of Chuckey, reportedly drove reckless at high rates of speed and took out a mailbox while heading toward the Old Asheville Highway.
When approaching Birds Bridge Road, the vehicle seemed to have mechanical problems. It eventually spun out and a male, Billy Mathes of Greeneville, exited through the drivers seat and fled on foot into a field. Eaton was detained inside the vehicle. Greeneville Police Department was able to catch Mathes who had several active warrants according to the report. During a pat down, a green leafy substance was found in his pocket appearing to be Marijuana. He also admitted that the suspects switched seats during the pursuit.
Eaton also had several warrants and after a pat down a white powdery substance in two clear bags appearing to be Methamphetamine was found on her person. The VIN for the vehicle revealed it was actually stolen. Both were arrested and charged with possession of stolen property, felony evading, as well as local warrants and individual drug charges.
