The Tusculum Volunteer Fire Department has been awarded $5,000 in grant funding by Norfolk Southern. The funds will be used for the purchase of heavy-duty cable hoists, jacks, cribbing blocks, and come-alongs that will allow the department to be better prepared to handle auto accidents and other technical rescue events.
Tusculum Fire Chief Marty Shelton said the funding will allow the department to add heavy-duty equipment made for rescue situations.
The Tusculum VFD responds to a 90 square mile area and supports eight surrounding communities with automatic-aid and mutual aid to all types of emergencies. The department responds to approximately 300+ incidents annually for structure fires, vehicle accidents, grass fires, and more. The Tusculum VFD is an all-volunteer staff of 25 members and belongs to the 14 department county-wide association where we provide equipment and man-power resources as requested to our neighbors.
