A Tusculum University student from Canada died in a crash on Old Tusculum Road Friday night just before 6:00 PM.
The school identified the student as freshman Payton Cook from Alberta, Canada. Cook was a member of the Tusculum lacrosse team.
The accident happened in the curve near Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church in the 2300 block. Tusculum University shared with its students that four other students were injured in the accident and were being treated for non life-threatening injuries.
Tusculum Volunteer and the Greeneville Fire Department, Tusculum and Greeneville Police, the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, EMS, and Rescue Squad all responded to the scene.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident.
