In addition to the approval of the traffic humps on Harlan Street, the Tusculum Board of Mayor and Commissioners dealt with other traffic related matters during their Monday night meeting.
ERWIN HIGHWAY SPEEDING
During the public comment portion of the meeting, resident Tom Fleming of the Erwin Highway discussed the speeding issue on the Erwin Highway. Mayor Corley says a stop sign is being considered on Park Avenue. Police Chief Danny Greene says a traffic engineering study is also planned beginning at Twin Oaks.
SCHOOL SPEED CAMERAS AND AFTERNOON TRAFFIC AT DOAK
In response to a question from resident J.D. Rich of New Castle Drive, Chief Greene said the school speed cameras operate from 7:15 until 8:45 am and from 2:15 until 3:45 pm on school days with the regular 25 mile per hour speed limit in effect at all other times in the school zones.
Rich also voiced concerns with the flow of traffic, or the lack thereof, when cars are at a standstill in the street while waiting to pick up students at Doak. Admitting it is a problem for 20 minutes or so then clears, Greene and Corley say construction of the running track behind the school will allow for more of an area where motorists will be able to wait for their children off the main highway in front of the school.
PLANNING COMMISSION
The Tusculum Planning Commission will remain unchanged. The board consist of Mayor Corley and Commissioner Burns. Dale Landers, Eric Price and Teresa McCrary were appointed to new three-year terms on the commission.
