The Tusculum University Board of Trustees presented a resolution of appreciation to the Executive Committee of the USS Greeneville, Inc. in recognition of the ship’s 30 years of service.
The resolution notes that Tusculum has provided academic scholarships for crew members and their dependents for more than 20 years. Tusculum president Dr. Scott Hummel will be present in San Diego on Monday when the change of command ceremony will take place as part of the 30th anniversary of the ship’s commissioning.
Tusculum students and faculty members are in the beginning stages of working on a website for USS Greeneville Inc. That project will involve students in the art and design, computer science, English and history programs and provide the students with hands-on experience, impress on them the value of civic engagement and help prepare them for their careers.
The USS Greeneville returned to San Diego in late January after a deployment that spanned 49,000 nautical miles.
