The Tusculum Volunteer Fire Department credited quick action by the store manager at the Dollar General on Highway 107 Thursday for recognizing an issue and successfully evacuating patrons from the building until the scene was deemed safe.
Tusculum Fire and Police responded to a reported gas leak and odor investigation at the store. Upon arrival, fire crews quickly identified a small fire within a roof-mounted HVAC unit. The damage they report was confined to that specific unit. Crews utilized fans to pressurize the building and clear the smoke.
There were no injuries and the store was reopened to customers a short time later.
