Tusculum finishes sixth at Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational

HICKORY, N.C. — The Tusculum University men’s golf team fired a final round 297 as the Pioneers finished sixth at the Lenoir-Rhyne Fall Invitational, which was held at the 6,628-yard, par-72 Lake Hickory Country Club.

Tusculum recorded a 54-hole total 904 to place sixth in the 16-team tournament field.

Host Lenoir-Rhyne captured the team title as the Bears finished with 875 to win by seven shots over runner-up Rollins (882).

Tusculum senior Blake Williams was the low Pioneer of the tournament as he finished with a three-round score of 222 to tie for 14th place which included a final round 72 on Tuesday.

TU’s Hunter Hartman was 27th with 71-78-78=227, while Liam van Deventer was tied for 30th with 72-83-74=229. Buster O’Callaghan (83-77-75=235) and Harrison Price (83-76-76=235) tied for 52nd place for the Pioneers.

LR’s Holt Allison captured medalist honors as he shot a three-under par 69-74-70=213, winning by a single stroke over King’s Asmund Noran with 73-70-71=214 (-2).

King finished third in the team competition with 889, St. Thomas Aquinas was fourth with 891 and North Greenville rounded out the top-five with 893. Tusculum was sixth with 904, followed by Glenville State (911), Charleston, W.Va. (912), Fayetteville State (919), Lenoir-Rhyne B (923), Chowan (928), Sandhills Community College (930), Wilmington (934), Limestone, B (941), Ferrum (970) and The Apprentice School (1020).

Tusculum returns to action next weekend as the Pioneers compete next week (Oct. 28-29) at the Bill Crabtree Invitational in Owensboro, Kentucky.
