A tractor trailer hauling a load of paper was struck by a Norfolk Southern train at the West Irish Street crossing in Greeneville around 10:30 this morning.
Greeneville Police and Greeneville Fire responded to a 9-1-1 dispatch that a truck had gotten stuck on those tracks. As officials were on the phone with Norfolk Southern to determine if there was a train in the area, one arrived at the crossing and struck the trailer portion of the tractor trailer. There were no injuries and despite damage to the trailer, there was no damage or leakage from the fuel tanks. The train was able to stop about 300 feet after the collision, so no other crossings were affected. The West Irish crossing however was blocked for cleanup as a tractor trailer tow truck arrived to assist.
