Texas Grand Jury Returns “No Bill” For Greeneville Man Accused Of Murder

A Texas Grand Jury has declined to indict a Greeneville man who was charged with murder.

The Parker County Grand Jury met last week and returned a “no bill” in the case of Nicholas Kent, meaning there is not enough evidence to charge him with the crime. This decision effectively ends the case, according to District Attorney Jeff Swain.

Kent was arrested in Texas following an interstate accident on January 6, 2024, where he was accused of shooting Wesley Lee. Officers arrived on the scene and reportedly found the 44-year-old Lee deceased.

Interstate Accident Leads to Murder Charge

A press release stated that Kent said he stopped on the side of the road after a collision on Interstate 20 in Weatherford, Texas. He got out, checked the front of his vehicle to evaluate the damage, and got back into the cab. Moments later, a man opened the door to his rig and started hitting him. Feeling threatened, Kent said he shot the man twice with a handgun. He then called 911, reported the incident, and waited for police to arrive. After talking with detectives for hours, he was taken to the Parker County Jail and booked for murder.

Self-Defense Claim Supported by Video Evidence

The press release noted that Kent’s claim of self-defense was supported by video from a nearby auto dealership. The footage showed the deceased pulling up behind Kent’s 18-wheeler, getting out of his truck, and running up to the cab of the rig. This behavior was not typical of someone merely seeking the driver’s license and insurance information of the other party in an accident. Unfortunately, the video did not capture the events at the cab due to its angle. However, Kent’s account was further corroborated by toxicology results from the autopsy, revealing that the deceased was under the influence of narcotics known to cause erratic and aggressive behavior at the time of the shooting

Grand Jury Decision

The Grand Jury met on June 20, 2024, and after a lengthy presentation, concluded there was not enough evidence to move forward with the indictment. According to a press release from District Attorney Jeff Swain, this decision concludes the case.
