The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation will assist in the investigation of a fire that destroyed a Chuckey residence on Saturday.
Deputies went to the residence at 166 Ebenezer Road, where they learned from firefighters that upon entry they noticed racial comments spraypainted on walls throughout the house. The owner of the home, who lives in Johnson City, had been using the house as an office and did not know of any enemies.
The house, valued at $480,000, was considered a total loss on the inside. Fire investigators from the Greene County Sheriff’s Department contacted the TBI for further investigation into the blaze.
The Camp Creek, Tusculum and Nolichuckey Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the scene along with crews from Y-12 and Clinton that were on standby at Nolichuckey.
