The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation released its annual “Crime on Campus” publication today, detailing the volume and nature of crime on the state’s college and university campuses.
Among the report’s findings:
~ Crime reported as having occurred on Tennessee college and university campuses increased around 26 percent from 2021 to 2022 and decreased 17 percent overall since 2019.
~ In 2022, Larceny/Theft offenses accounted for 27 percent of reported offenses.
~ Assault offenses reported on college and university campuses increased nearly 30 percent year-to-year.
~ Reported Drug/Narcotic violations increased 16 percent from 2021 to 2022.
Locally, Tusculum University had five reports of assault in 2022, including four simple assault incidents and one intimidation. The University also had three burglary reports, seven theft reports, seven vandalism incidents, and six narcotic violations.
Walters State Community College had no reports of assault or theft.
