The Summer Solstice marks the official start of summer at 4:50 PM Thursday, June 20th, 2024. The Summer Solstice is reportedly the longest day of the year. It’s when the North Pole is at its maximum tilt toward the sun and the sun reaches its highest point in the sky all year, according to the National Weather Service.
Temperatures this weekend will be in the 90’s and are reaching a heat index up to around 100 degrees or more, according to the Greeneville/Greene County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security.
Extreme heat mixed with humidity for more than two days with temperatures over 90 degrees can lead to death if you don’t take care of yourself properly.
