A Midway woman said that a check was stolen and cashed after she placed it in the mail, according to the Greene County Sheriff’s Department.
The victim said that on August 3 she made out a check for $1,500 to Bank of America and placed it in the mailbox at the Mosheim Post Office. On Wednesday, she noticed that the balance had not been paid and contact the bank, who said that the check had been cashed.
The woman was able to receive a copy of the cashed check, which had been altered to be payable to a Demarcus Smith. The check was cashed at Capital One in Richmond, Virginia, according to the report.
