The Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development reported this afternoon that the state unemployment rate increased slightly in August.
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for August was 3.1 percent, up slightly from the record low of 3.0 percent posted in May, June and July. Total nonfarm employment across the state decreased by 1,400 jobs between July and August.
The national unemployment rate for August was 4.2 percent, down slightly from 4.3 percent in July.
County unemployment data for August will be released next week.
