The Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development reported on Thursday that the state unemployment rate held steady in January.
The state’s seasonally adjusted rate for January was 3.7 percent, while December’s rate was revised to 3.7 percent. Between December 2024 and January 2025, total nonfarm employment in the state decreased by around 10,000 jobs.
Tennessee’s unemployment rate in January 2024 was 3.2 percent. During the past year, employers across the state added 21,500 jobs.
The national unemployment rate for January 2025 was 4.0 percent, down slightly from 4.1 percent in December.
County unemployment data for January will be released next week.
