The School Resource Officers from the Greene County Sheriff’s Department and Greeneville Police Department will present the second “What Your Kids Don’t Want You To Know,” parent event to be held on Monday, December 5th at 6 PM at Towering Oaks Baptist Church.
The free event will address current trends in drugs and social media that are presently being seen in schools in Greene County. During this years’ event, there is an additional section devoted to mental health. One thing that is often heard from parents when their child has problems in school is “I wish I would have known about this or what to look for.” Information gained from this event will answer that question along with providing information about other issues kids face today in school. The event is open to all parents/guardians of public, private, and home school students.
“We are grateful to be hosting this community awareness event for parents/guardians or anyone who directly impacts the lives of kids because children are a blessing from the Lord”, stated Amy Pfaff-Biebel from Towering Oaks Baptist Church and Towering Oaks Christian School. “We want to support our county and city law enforcement, Greene County Sessions and Juvenile Court, Greene County Anti-drug Coalition and the
Tennessee Department of Health, to help raise awareness to the dangers impacting Greene county children. We thank God for this partnership, and the support of Apex Bank and the United Way, and pray that it will educate residents so that we can prevent our kids from being in perilous situations.”
Apex Bank is sponsoring the event for the second year. “On behalf of Apex Bank and our eight branches in the East TN region, it is an honor to partner with these great organizations once again to educate our community on the subject of drug abuse and social media trends and the negative impact they have on our young people,” stated Tammy Kinser, Greene County Market President with Apex Bank. “On December 5th, we are adding the mental health component to the presentation and hope that we can continue supporting our community’s efforts to reach more families in need.”
“Frontier Health is honored to continue partnering with other resources in our community”, stated Jaime Weems with Frontier Health – Nolachuckey-Holston Area Mental Health Center. “Our goal in participating in the Parent Event is to provide information to parents if there are any questions or concerns with their student. We hope to bring awareness about mental health in Greeneville and Greene County and reassure parents that there are people in our schools that want to help their student succeed and be healthy. We are thankful that both school systems allow us to partner with them and have School Based Services. We will be providing contact information for each of our school’s therapists at the Parent Academy; however, if there are any questions or concerns, please reach out to Nolachuckey Mental Health at 639-1104.”
The Greene County Sherriff’s Department and the Greeneville Police Department would also like to thank the Greene County Anti-Drug Coalition, United Way, Strong Futures, Tennessee Department of Health and the many other groups and organizations that have provided help in making the event happen.
