Greene County Solid Waste remains ahead of schedule for completing their work and closing the debris site on the Old Asheville Highway by the end of the month.
During a budget hearing earlier this year with Solid Waste Director Jim Greene and Assistant Directors Matthew Elmore and Max Lowe, Elmore said FEMA had designated the work be finished by October 2nd, but plans are to be completed and the debris site closed around three months earlier by the end of June.
An update at the Budget and Finance Committee meeting Wednesday indicates that plan remains on schedule. Mayor Kevin Morrison sent out a special thanks for Justin McKinney with the Tobacco Experiment Station for use of their property during the cleanup. Greene County Solid Waste is the department that has been collecting debris from property owners land along the Nolichucky River since the September flooding.
