Volunteers with three fire departments responded to a house fire Tuesday night.

The South Greene, St. James, and Camp Creek Volunteer Fire Departments were called to 730 Houston Valley Road just after 7:30 PM.  The residents reported smoke inside the house.

Fire fighters remained on the scene for a little under two hours.   Also responding were EMS and the Greeneville Energy Authority.

South Greene Volunteer Fire Chief David Weems says upon arrival, firefighters found a single-family dwelling with smoke coming from the left side of the residence.

The occupant stated she heard a noise and found fire in the bathroom area. Upon entering the structure, firefighters were able to quickly extinguished the fire. After ensuring the fire was extinguished, fans were used to ventilate smoke from the structure. There was a significant amount of fire damage in the bathroom, with heat and smoke damage in an adjacent bedroom. The area of origin was determined to be near an electrical junction box in a wall between the bedroom and bathroom.

Weems says response times and a coordinated effort between the 3 fire departments resulted in limiting fire spread to the room of origin.

Fire damage is estimated to be $25,000. No injuries were reported.

Chaplain Danny Ricker, Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy Charles Jesse, and Greeneville Energy Authority also responded to the scene. TDOT was requested to spread salt on roadway due to frozen water from fire apparatus being present.
All emergency agencies cleared the scene by 945 pm.
