Tuesday Lightning
- When Thunder Roars, Go Indoors: If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck.
– Lightning can strike outward 10 miles from a storm. If you hear any thunder, even a distant rumble, you are likely within striking distance of the storm.
- Stay in a safe, fully enclosed building for at least 30 minutes after the last rumble of thunder.
- Safe Shelters: Substantial buildings with plumbing/electricity or hard-topped metal vehicles are the only safe options. Picnic shelters, dugouts, and tents are not safe.
- Indoor Precautions: Avoid plumbing (showering, washing dishes) and corded electronics, as electrical surges can travel through wiring and pipes.
