Several officeholders for countywide offices, in addition to city and county school board seats, were decided in uncontested races during Tuesday’s primary elections.
All countywide races with uncontested candidates filed were in the Republican primary, and those candidates will run unopposed in the August General Election as no Democratic candidate filed to run for the seats.
A few school board races had no candidates file for either the Republican and Democratic primaries, but single independent candidates filed for the seats. Those independent candidates will also run uncontested in the August General Election.
In the Republican Primary, Nathan Holt won reelection to the office of Greene County Trustee with 7,097 complimentary votes in an uncontested race, and Whitney Collins won reelection to the office of Circuit Court Clerk with 7,381 complimentary votes.
Lori Bryant was reelected as Greene County Clerk with 7,560 complimentary votes, and Karen Collins Ottinger won reelected as Register of Deeds with 7,557 complimentary votes.
Holt, Collins, Bryant, and Ottinger will run uncontested in August.
Greene County School Board
Larry Bible was reelected to the Greene County School Board District 3 seat with 1,058 complimentary votes, and Gary Compton was reelected to the County School Board District 5 seat with 1,284 complimentary votes. Mark Rothe was also reelected with 848 complimentary votes to the County School Board District 6 seat.
No Republican or Democratic candidates filed in the Greene County School Board District 1 race, meaning independent candidate Stacey Franklin will run unopposed for reelection to the seat in the August General Election. Independent candidate Minnie Blankenship Banks will also run unopposed for reelection to the Greene County School Board District 4 seat in August as no candidates filed to run in Tuesday’s primary.
Greeneville City School Board
Watson Leonard ran uncontested in the Republican Primary for an at-large seat on the Greeneville City Schools Board of Education and received 1,332 complimentary votes. Leonard will face no opposition in the August General Election.
Johnny Painter ran uncontested in the Republican Primary for one of two Ward 2 City School Board seats up for election and received 519 complementary votes. David Hollowell filed as an independent candidate for the other 2nd Ward City School Board seat up for election. Painter was the lone Republican to file for one of the two 2nd Ward seats, and no Democrats filed in the race. Therefore, Hollowell and Painter will run unopposed to fill the two 2nd Ward seats in the August General Election.
