A second person has died from injuries sustained in an accident around 6:15 Wednesday morning on Asheville Highway near the 107 Cutoff.

A Ford F-150 driven by 47-year-old Donald E. Arrington was traveling northbound on Asheville Highway and was behind a Mercury Grand Marquis driven by 67-year-old Bonita G. Metcalf. A third vehicle, a Chevrolet Silverado driven by 20-year-old Samuel B. Davis, was traveling southbound on Asheville Highway.

Arrington’s truck struck the Metcalf vehicle from behind , who had stopped to turn left on Cove Creek Road. The Metcalf vehicle, after being hit , then crossed the centerline into the southbound lane and struck the Davis vehicle head-on.

Metcalf died at the scene. Davis and two passengers, 58-year-old Jackie R. Aiken and 57-year-old Leann B. Aiken, were all injured.

The THP now confirms Jackie Aiken has also died from injuries sustained in the wreck. Arrington was not injured.

Highlands Air Rescue responded to the scene with two helicopters and a landing zone was established at South Greene High School

The Greene County Sheriff’s Department, Greeneville Emergency and Rescue Squad, South Greene Volunteer Fire Department, and the Tennessee Highway Patrol all responded to the scene.

According to a report from the THP, charges are pending in the accident.
