The Greene County Sheriff’s Department made the second and later the third arrest of the week of passengers on a Greyhound bus which had stopped on Van Hill Road in Baileyton.
Around 9:40 last night, authorities responded to a simple assault call at that location.
Paul Demar Jeffcoat of Winston Salem, North Carolina had gotten off the bus when the woman he was with apparently told him she no longer wanted to be in the relationship. The Sheriff’s Department report indicates Jeffcoat then pushed the woman to the ground and kicked her in the head and back. A witness was able to stop the assault and numerous others prevented him from leaving until law enforcement arrived. Both he and she were checked by EMS at the scene but denied transport to the hospital. Having been determined that Jeffcoat was the primary aggressor, he was charged with Domestic Assault and was taken to the Greene county Detention Center.
Around midnight this morning, authorities arrested another bus passenger.
Austin S. Bowman of Cookeville, Tennessee was charged on an outstanding warrant from Overton County and was also in possession of a stolen firearm from Putnam County. He was transported to the Detention Center for booking.
Both men are scheduled for Sessions Court appearances on Friday.
As we reported yesterday, 45 year old Marty Thomas McKnight of Kingsport was arrested on Fugitive From Justice charges out of Wise County, Virginia after he exited the bus at that location early Tuesday.
