The Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development reported Thursday afternoon that Greene County’s unemployment rate in June was 5.5 percent, up from 4.2 percent in May.
Greene County’s rate a year ago was 5.7 percent.
The unemployment rate for June 2025 increased in all 95 Tennessee counties. Seasonal changes in employment that occur annually, such as school breaks, led to the increase. Sevier and Cheatham Counties had the lowest rates at 3.2 percent, while Perry County had the highest rate at 6.2 percent.
The state unemployment rate for June was 3.5 percent, unchanged from the previous two months. State unemployment rates are seasonally adjusted, while county rates are not.
