High winds caused problems in Greene County overnight, with a peak gust of 93 miles per hour recorded at Camp Creek around 1:00 AM.

The powerful winds caused a camper located at 1074 Old Mountain Road to overturn, trapping three people inside. The Tusculum Volunteer Fire Department and Greeneville Emergency & Rescue Squad responded to the scene at 1:02 AM. Volunteers managed to extricate all three individuals from the toppled camper unharmed.

Greene County Schools are closed today due to the continued high winds, especially in the foothills.

Crews from the Greeneville Energy Authority worked overnight to restore power to homes. As of 6:00 AM, over 300 customers remained without electricity, primarily in the southern part of the county, where the winds had downed power lines.

The forecast calls for those windy conditions to persist throughout the day, with steady winds of 25 miles per hour and peak gusts reaching up to 40 miles per hour expected in the valley. A high wind warning remains in effect for the mountains and foothills in southern Greene County, where peak gusts of 80 miles per hour are still possible. The warning is set to expire at 2:00 PM.
