The owner of a property that is being developed for a potential business across the Greeneville High School got permission Tuesday from the Greeneville City Council to remove a remnant of a retaining wall.
A portion of the retaining wall left is situated on property owned by the Town of Greeneville. With the council’s permission the owner can move forward with his construction. According to Planning Director Randy Davenport, the owner has been working with staff from the planning and building departments so he could renovate a building on the lot. The plan is to turn it into a sandwich shop type of establishment with limited seating.
It’s not exactly known why there is only a portion of the retaining wall left, but Davenport did mention that it could have to do with the previous business that was located there. A side yard set back variance was approved by the Greeneville Municipal Planning Commission in a previous meeting.
Renovations will include a new roof, adding an extension, and paving a parking lot to include about five parking spots. Davenport said the owner and his son have been very diligent during this entire process and they have been a pleasure to work with. He believes this is a good business opportunity because of its location near GHS and Walters State, and the pedestrian traffic.
Also during the meeting, the council approved a purchase request for three 2024 Dodge Durango SUV’s estimated at about $130,000 for the Greeneville Police Department, a police vehicle replacement, and a skid steer for the Parks and Recreation Department.
