Friday, September 11th, 2026, marks the twenty‑five-year anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon, and United Airlines Flight 93, which crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. On that September morning in 2001, nearly three thousand innocent lives were taken, and our nation was forever changed.
Patriot Day stands as a solemn remembrance of those lives lost, the heroes who acted with extraordinary courage, and the unity that carried our country forward in the days and years that followed.
Greene County and the Town of Greeneville will join communities across the nation in honoring this anniversary with a Patriot Day Memorial Service held on the front steps of the Greene County Courthouse, beginning at noon.
Emergency Chaplain Danny Ricker will offer the invocation, followed by the reading of a joint proclamation by Greene County Mayor Kevin C. Morrison and Town of Greeneville Mayor C. Calvin Doty. Tennessee State Representative David Hawk will then deliver keynote remarks, and the program will conclude with Chaplain Ricker offering the benediction.
Citizens are invited to attend and share in this moment as the community pauses together in reflection, reverence, and remembrance.
This observance will pay tribute to the victims, survivors, first responders, military service members, and all who have borne the weight of that day. It will also reaffirm our shared commitment to service, compassion, and unity—values that emerged so powerfully in the aftermath of the attacks and continue to define the American spirit.
