One person died in a fire Sunday morning in Greene County.
Greene County Sheriff Wesley Holt said that the fire was reported at 9:36 AM at 436 Robert Harmon Road, off the Baileyton Highway. A small cinderblock structure behind a home was engulfed in flames.
Volunteers from the United, Tusculum, and Mosheim Volunteer Fire Departments, along with firefighters from Greeneville responded. Other people at the scene told firemen they believed that a person was inside the structure. The fire to the small structure was quickly brought under control, and the body was recovered.
10 volunteers with the United VFD responded with three trucks, along with those from the other departments. Approximately 500 gallons of water was used to extinguish the fire. Firefighters cleared the scene just before 12:30 PM.
Sheriff Holt said the body will be sent to the William L. Jenkins Forensic Center for autopsy and formal identification.
It’s the second fire related death in Greene County this month. On February 8, a man died in a house fire on Milburnton Road.
