Authorities report there was one fatality related to the flash flooding in Cocke and Greene Counties on Thursday morning.
The Bybee and Parrottsville areas were the most impacted.
A 64 year old woman died on her birthday outside her Highway 160 residence in the Centerview area of Cocke County when swept away by the flood waters.
The victim’s body was recovered a short time later. She was identified as Teresa Diane Young of Bybee.
The Greeneville Emergency and Rescue Squad responded shortly after 7 am to assist Cocke County water rescue efforts. The Caney Branch and Tusculum Volunteer Fire Departments also assisted.
The Flash Flood Warning, first issued just before 7:30 am , was set to expire at 11:30 Thursday morning, but was extended until 2:30 as flood waters were slow to recede.
