One person was charged with filing a false report Sunday following a complaint of a disturbance on the Tusculum University campus with possible possession of a firearm.
Tusculum Police, the Greene County Sheriff’s Department and Greeneville Police, along with K9 Boomer and Constable Wayne Wilhoit responded to the call. Police were dispatched for an alleged student with a pistol.
The suspect, Johny K. Mathiang, stated that another man had thrown a water balloon at him. Mathiang said the other man threatened him with a gun and took off running on campus with the gun.
After further investigation, it was determined that the two had tussled, but no one reported seeing a gun.
Due to the circumstances of all deputies and officers in the surrounding area being on scene and no one being able to corroborate the suspect’s story, Mathiang was placed into custody and transported to the Greene County Detention Center for filing a false report.
